EFI Problems

I own a 2002 chevy cavalier 2.2 liter engine. I ran out of gas and after putting in a tank of gas the car wont start. This is the metod I tried: press and release the gas pedal once to engage the choke, turn key for about 10-15 seconds, wait a few mintutes, try-try agian. The car seems like it wants to start. It kicks over a few times and dies. There is no rythem to the engine just jerks quite a bit. Any help would be nice. tc

You have no choke. turn the key on, wait until you hear the fuel pump stop, then turn the key to "start". If it don't go you may have another problem. Try some fuel injection cleaner or "dry gas" product you may have some condensation water in there.

It may be flooded, hold the gas pedal to the floor while trying to start it. That should clear a flooded condition. Hope this helps.

deffintely the fuel pump! listen while u turn the key on and see if it comes on my be a louse connection to it too

The problem was found. I had removed the fuel tank (painfully), then removed the fuel pump from inside the tank. I started to bench test it and found no pressure from the main fuel line. I then took the fuel pump apart and found an internal fuel filter. I removed the internal filter and magic happened, pressure started through the main line. The bottom line is, the internal filter had clogged up with the little black particles. The new question is where did it come from? The particles are only found inside the pump reservoir where the filter is located.
