Grand National Performance????

Hello to all memebers. I'm a newbie, but asking for some help/suggestions.

I bought an 87' Grand National in 1994. I'm now wanting to do some modifications to it. It already has cams and a chip.

What I'm looking for or wanting is the most bang for the buck performance upgrades. Don't get me wrong, I'm not cheap, but I don't want to spend useless cash on something that won't achieve good changes in the performance of the car.

If possible, list some modifications vs. cost to do.

Thanks to all those who drop me some info on this thread.

A fellow moderator Hypsi87, has a GN that'll handle 25 psi of boost, wait for him to respond.

My question to you is: How fast do you want to go?

whatever you add make sure you think of the combination as a whole. you dont want one part out of wack of the others. make sure you have the "spring cleaning" done so you have a good base. first thing is to upgrade the fuel system. walbro has a good pump most of the buick venders sell. its the 340 ( i had a choice and got the 307 --- now wishing i would have gone up a step) also make sure you ahve an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. i've gone with a SMC alcohol setup running a pte 110 chip on the street. i run about 22-23 lbs of boost with a ta-49 turbo and a Terry Huston 3" downpipe. i've also upgraded to 42.5 lb injectors but 60 lbers are now available that dont require a computer modification. never been to the track for a time but it feels good "seat of the pants" just got a PTE stock location intercooler that needs to be installed next week (cruisenite is saturday and dont want to miss it -- looks like a fairily complecated install moving the alcohol system and then retuning it for the added flow. any questions get ahold of me. cya, keith

GET A SCANMASTER!!!!!!! You absoultly need a way to keep an eye on a turbo buick if you want to go fast and keep it together. These cars are reall finiky about the air to fuel raitos. The alcohol kit is deffinatly the way to go. Accually I cannot stress the importance of an alcohol injection kit. (Unless you like to buy 11$ per gallon race fuel all the time) I would look into this kit. I am selling my SMC and using this one.

Progressive kits are the coolest thing around.

I would also reccomend a translator plus with an LS1 MAF and an extreme extender chip.

Personally as far as intercoolers are conserned, I think the best bang for the buck is Jack cottons stock locaton stretch intercooler with the adjustable shroud.

If you get a 3 inch downpipe do yourself a favor, get one with an external waste gate and buy a turboneticus deltagate or racegate or something like that. With a wastegate like that, you can adjust your boost on the fly, you won't have to get out of the car and turn the nut on the actuator and get back in and realize that you did not turn it far enough or you turned it too far. It is so worth the money.

deffinatly go with the walbro 340 intank pump. The stock fuel pump is deffinatly not able to flow enough fuel. You also need a hotwire kit (If you know how to wire a relay, you can do it yourself with 10 gauge wire.) the stock wiring can't handle the current it takes when the 340 is at max flow. 60 PPH injectors are a bit too much for for a stock turbo (Hell even a TA-49 or TE-44 turbo) the 009's are great for the street. I have the MSD 50's because I run 27 PSI on race fuel.

If you have any questions at all just post them up and we will anwser them as soon as possible.
