aircooled 6 into a beetle?

I potentially have the availability of getting an aircooled porsche 6 cylinder engine. I would like to put it into my beetle. only problem is, I don't know any source of information, parts, or anything. I want to turbo the engine eventually, but i don't know whether the engine has Nikasil cylinders, and would be able to withstand the power increase without drastically affecting reliability?
Also, can someone point me in the right direction for finding engine specifications (displacement, output, etc).
I have a lot of questions, but would like to know where to go to answer them.
thanks

What year beetle?

In either event you are going to need some/lots of welding skills to make a rear support for the engine. Removing a 100lb engine and placing a 200+ lb engine on the same transmission mounts = lots of problems.

Did you know the 911 engine is a dry sump meaning the oil is kept outside the engine? you are gonna need all the fittings from the engine and assemble an external oil tank.

Other things.
All the engine area body sheetmetal would have to be cut away.
The 911 stock exhaust would sit outside of the beetle.
You'll have to reindex the torsion bars to accomodate the extra weight.
A swingaxle tranny won't take 100+ HP let alone the amount of torque generated by the 911 motor.
A stock 911 motor up to 2.7ltrs will bolt on to a tranny that had a 1500+ engine already.
No 911 motor will bolt on the the early 180mm clutched trannys w/o grinding lots of the bellhousing away.

If you got the money and friends, DO IT! It's not just a simple plug and play though.

I have a 63 beetle sitting on a 71 irs pan. I have machinist friends that would be willing to help me out. I can take the porsche tranny and engine together. I sure would not want to stick it into the beetle tranny, even though mine is beefed up with stronger mainshafts and gears.
I guess what i am trying to achieve is massive displacement with reliability, and it is hard to come by with VW. I could go with a type 4, but I don't know what the max displacement of those are.

thanks for your response. I think i would be better off waiting until i get out of school to start such a task.

I've seen it done, if you have money and time go for it.
