anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the ring gear on the diff and get the bolt holes lined up and everything. my buddy and i are trying to do this now and are not having any luck. is there a special tool or something or a certain technique that i should use?

What size gears?

it should slide almost all the way down and you should be able to get the holes pretty much lined up b4 you drop it all the way down... then go aorund the gear and hit it with a rubber malet (not a sledge) then you can just tightin all the bolts and it will go the rest of the way down

um...no

son-bitch is pretty damn tigh on the carrier and theres no way we can turn it while its on the carrier without some kindof sledge device. what if i took a dremel to the inside of the gear just to loosen up the fit to line up the holes so i can torque down the bolts?

Dont take a dremel to the inside of the gear. Somethings not right because it should be easier to install this.

Just to be sure, are you aware how difficult it can be to get gears setup properly so that they work good and dont whine??

yes im aware, i was just wondering if there was some technique to getting the holes lines up. what i was originally going to do was throw the ring in the oven and heat it up to expand the metal. havent tried that yet, saving it as a last resort kindof...

Call them maybe you have a defective set which can happen but it should be alot easier than you are describing

haha, thanks for the vote of confidence, and no i dont smoke anything. as far as i can tell im doing it right (although i guess im not doing something right). the gear goes down and there's maybe half to one inch ( i dont remember and i looked at it 15 min ago) clearance. i have to hammer it on the rest of the way. and it actually doesnt go on too hard, i think, its just that the holes are not exactly lined up and i really dont feel like pounding the thing off eight times until i get the holes lined up. the gears are not supposed to just slip on easily right?

nevermind guys, thanks for the efforts but i just popped the ring gear in my oven for about half an hour at 400 degrees and the gear slid on like it was nobody's business. man i love physics...

They are suppose to slip on to the point where you can start to thread the ring gear into place

well the only thing i can think of that no one has really mention is the ring diameter. there are different size rings sutch as, 8.5, 8.25, 7.5, and there is one other that came in the camaros also i think, maybe 7.625, but im not sure. and those all came in the 10 bolt housings, maybe the 9 bolt too but i dont really know anything about those. carp i think those are the right numbers, im tired and its late someone corect me if its wrong. now you have to have the right ring for the right diff. to my knoledge you can not intermix one for differnt sizes. its just a thought but that could be your problem.

wow and i so didnt realize there was a second page to this thread and you got it on. like i said im tired.
