After all my woes finding the idle switch and cleaning the egr valve.... my car cut off as I slowed down to pay the toll on 836 in Miami.

The Ford Focus behind me did stop and " Smack !! "

The P10 has a really sturdy rear bumper because the Focus suffered all the damage. ( PS he was ticketed for reckless driving .... and me for failure to make repairs )

My car is now at a Longuasa where they do the DET 's.

Yeah, I wish I could go turbo now but I don't have the money. The guys there said I need a new starter, the timing adjusted and new plugs and wires. Super tune up. I have like $500 extra to spend now. What mods would you guys recommend I have them do while they have the car ? They said that they will instal whatever I want. They recommended NGK plus and stuffand Hi lFlow filter like the Stillen. They will have it next 3-4 days.

Thanks again

Yes, outside of the cost of the repairs, I have $500 to spend on MODS.
I was going concetrate on engine stuff for now or if I get a good deal do suspension.

I say, do the engine mods. CAI, exhaust, plugs, among other things.

If not, the suspension would definitely have to be coilovers. I don't know if they are available for your car, but definitely worth looking into.

Is CAI more effective than just drop in filter or Filter Charger Kit ? What are the best plugs and Wires ? And is an exhuat upgrade worth any extra horsepower and will it make my car too " Civic Ricey Loud " ?

Basically, as it pertains the CAI, you just want to get more cooler air to your engine. I've seen people do both. The effect is the same, just that with the intake, you get that deep, throaty sound. Definite plus!

As for plug and wires, splitfire, bosch, you can shop around for that. No particular fav's on my behalf.

The exhaust. You'll get varying opinions on this. When you get the exhaust in conjunction with the intake, you won't get that "ricey civic" sound. More of a deep throaty sound as previously stated with the intake. Brands of exhaust: Tanabe, Greddy, and a few others.

for plugs, go for the Halo Plugs.
(any europeans in here familiar with these?)

Better design, better mpg, supposed to give a couple hp. A little more expensive, but only need to change every 100,000 miles.
oh, yeah, and no gapping.

For plugs and wire you should just stick with the stock wires and standard copper or plat NGK plugs. The Nissan ingnition system is fine for bolt-ons and low boost applications. When you start boosting to 14psi on a stock 9.5:1 compression motor then you need to upgrade the ignition. Unless you want pretty colors under the hood don't waste your money.

plugs: splitfire???.... i wont even comment. go with NGK ;)

intake: the CAI (cold air intake) would be the best.. but this puts the filter somewhere near the lower front of your car... if you ever go through a puddle or heavy rain.. this can be a big problem as you'll scoop water right into your engine!!... the filter charger works good and is way better than a drop in filter.

exhaust: you get what you pay for, if you buy a cheap exhaust which is basically just a can.. thats what you'll get.. a can that goes... braaaaaaaatttttttttttt.. just tell your shop what you want and i'm sure they'll point you in the right direction, but be prepared to pay big bucks for a good exhaust...

as for having $500 to spend, forget the exhaust as I'd use all of that for an exhaust. get the plugs, wires, filter charger some other goodies...

DRE,

Did you use these ( HALO ) and did you have to retard your ignition timing ?

Due to the improved combustion initiation and faster burn speed (30 to 40% faster than a standard plug as tested at a NASCAR engine facility), most vehicles will require retarding of the spark advance to ensure optimum use of this faster burn. This is typically one to four degrees, but will vary with each application. Some vehicles do a good job of correcting this on their own, but it should always be checked.......

when I had my NGK plugs put in, they advanced my timing 17*

Where is the best place to order the Air Intake FAST... the mechanic is calling right now asking me which stuff I want ? He suggested NGK too.
Are there NGK wires ?

I'd go for the super tune up on the engine with a good filter etc to get the car running nice and sweet.
As b-bOOgie said, a really good exhaust will set you back lots of dollars.

Spitfires.....:finger: :finger:
Go for the NGK and a good brand 8mm leads(mollery etc)

Just installing the plugs made your timing advance ?

Poppy-

I haven't gotten em for my g20 yet
(ordered on monday),
but for my 55 tbird, yes, i did retard it a little bit just to be safe.
I haven't had any detonation yet, but I'll have to see what happens when i put the supercharger on it.

uh, oh... wasn't there just some big to do on this list about 'Big Ugly American V8s and super vs. turbo.

no.. i'm not sure if you need this done.. but the place that put them in for me does strictly engine work only and they recommended that I advance my timing. when they put in my NGK plugs they told me they advanced it 17 degrees. i just smiled and nodded :)

as for the filter charger.. call Jim Wolf directly and order it.... 619-442-0680

lol.. when i said "they" advanced my timing.. i meant the mechanic...

btw my plugs are "NGK Platinum" they have an SR20DE model....

my plug wires are Magnecor 8.5mm Competition wires.. they run $90-120 on the average ...they have less expensive 8mm and 7mm ones, but i wouldnt go less than 8mm, cause its practically not worth the cost.

so between that, the plugs, and intake you'll probably take care of that $500 quickly and have some nice juice and power flowing!! :)

good luck

Thanks for all he input guys. I will go with the nkg plats. Where can I get magnacor wires ? Are they in Pep boys or do you have to order them online ?

I will also get either Jwt or stillen intake. My friend says that I can get one like these for $75 (knockoff) Does the brand make a real diff. I would like to go with the place CAI but it cost too muh money for now ...( unless I don't pay my student loan...lol)...

thanks again

Get a header if you don't have one. They are the single best power mod besides a turbo.

Pullies are also an excellent choice. Header and pullies really added some pep to the G.

I agree fully with Jason about plugs and wires. Unless you are running a stupid fast turbo, the factory plugs are the best out there. This is per Clark Steppler of JWT. For plugs, stay with NGK. Screw the Bosch and others. I've read of people who after as little as 2k miles with Bosch have had driveability issues and pulled the Bosch plugs and reinstalled 60k and even 90k mile plugs and the driveability issues *immediately* went away.

( PS , my old intake was a knock off that the adapter did not fit ).
Some is selling a Stillen header that I thinking of buying too. Will I notice a big diffrence even with my automatic ?

I will try to take piture of my install the mechanic is going let me watch and help .....
