I snatched this Lamborghini Silhouette made by Crown as soon as I saw it. :iceslolan
The box art is really disappointing. Even I can do better than that. :disappoin
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/64091Silhouette01.jpg
Mold lines are everywhere as well as excess bits around parts.
This is what you get from the factory. :shakehead
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/64091Silhouette02.jpg
This is how it looks like after spending an afternoon removing mold lines, filling up the deep scratches and primer.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/64091Silhouette03.jpg
The body will be painted in a color similar to Tamiya's Telefonica blue or mica Blue.
Not sure about the color of the wheels yet. Chrome? BBS gold?

Do you know if this is a re-pop of the Gunze kit? The Jalpa and Silhouette are my favorite Lambos and except for the Gunze kits, I didnt think anyone else made them in 1/24.
Cychalen

LS, Otaki, Testors & USAirfix also made them in 1/24 besides Gunze and Crown. Now the problem is finding them.
I am not sure if this is a re-pop of the Gunze kit, but from the info shown at www.lamborghiniregistry.com (http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/Collectibles/ScaleModels/index.html), I would say it is a re-pop of the LS kit since they are motorized.
The above site is a goldmine for Lamborghini lovers so take some time to check it out. :)

One unique project you got there. I really like the shape of this car!!! Just a suggestion... How about painting the body pearl white. A thought.
Cheers!

I think it would look really nice with a bright white or red with matte aluminum (to look like magnesium) or gold wheels. It would look nice if you drilled out the holes in the wheels to be more realistic, as well.

Cool!
Yeah I'm with the others, some sort of grey/silver finish for the wheels....That is if you use them - personally I'd get onto HLJ and order some of the Fujimi Lambo rims, I reckon they would be a bit more realistic looking....

This is after 3 light coats of seaside blue. It will get darker as more coats are applied.
Can't continue painting because the airbrush spit paint on the body.:uhoh: I guess it is because of the high humidity. I had the AC and dehumidifier on but still... :disappoin
7th_skyline. I will paint the wheels with Alclad II 105 Polished Aluminium and see how it looks. If it is bad then I will get some new wheels.

Finally got the color that I want with 2 more heavy coats of paint. In real life it looks a bit darker than in the picture.

I think the wheels look fine after some Alclad II 105 Polished Aluminium and blackwashing. What do you think? Should I replace them?

Also made new exhaust tips and you can see why. :disappoin

wich scale is that model?
wich scale is that model?
urraco75
07-05-2004, 04:42 PM
The scale is 1/24.
I have all the versions (i think) of the Silhouette in 1/24, the Crown mold is unique, not a re-mold of any other versions.
I have this model in progress actually, i made it in Yellow with a black interior.
(My other models are British green, dark blue, anthracite and silver). For me it's one of the best Silhouette ever made, the Heller/Gunze/US Airfix is too long, the LS is too flat and regarding the Otaki, my model had a problem with the body (deformed... ), i'm not sure i can get it right again...
If i have time, i will put some pictures of my models

Here's a couple shots of my Gunze Silhouette. OOB except for aluminum exhaust tips and the Dodge Viper wheels. I've been keeping an eye out for a better kit, but havent come across one. I've only seen the Gunze and the Testors Gunze kits so far.

urraco75. Your list of in progress and finished Lambos is fine to say the least. :iceslolan Do post pictures of your models. I am very interested.
My Crown kit only came with one rear view mirror (driver side). What about yours?
p9o1r1sche. That's a very nice looking car. :sunglasse
Did you paint the door handles or use chrome decal?

Cychalen - If I remember, I painted the door handle insets black, then cut some foil to the right size and stuck it in the proper place inside the door handle inset.
Orion37170 - This kit is VERY simple with a minimum of detail. Most of the detail is molded in. It had a huge sink mark on each side of the door that needed filling. It makes a decent shelf model as long as you dont look too close.

Not happy with this build. The paint chips really easily and I do not know why. Little chips of paint broke off and I had to do some touch up. They are not noticeable in the pictures but they are there. :disappoin

Judging by the pictures the model looks very good. I like the subject, always nice to see something unordinary subjects being built and of course it's nice to see well built Lambos too :iceslolan That big white plastic gear on the last pic is a bit eyecatching though :eek7:

Paintwork and everything looks grand.
Since you left that gear out the back did you include an electric motor as well? If so it possibly explains the paint chips :D

I think it looks pretty good. :)
The color really brings out the lines of the car I think.
The working headlights are a cool feature.

I love it !
It's superoriginal and well built too!
Except for that stuffy evryone mentioned.
Maybe the paint chips because you used a bad combination of sorts of paint and primer, or you bent the plastic once too much to put it on the chassis or something? there has to be an explanation...
Well, at least I don't see any...
Oh, and if I may do a little picking nits... BMF in the scripts on the body would be sweet. You might want to reposition the left exhaust too...
as for the rims, you did a sweet job blackwashing.
Olivier :)

Thanks for your comments :)
mel79 & RallyRaider. I did not insert an electric motor. The big plastic gear is there because I do not have another metal rod to replace the one supplied. I should have painted the gear in black.
CADguy. The headlights are not "working type". The kit comes with open and closed versions.
bigfrit. This is how I painted it. Mr Hobby primer + Finisher's seaside blue + Mr. Hobby super clear II. Everything with Mr. Hobby leveling thinner.
I am trying out new things to find out what I like best.
I think you are right about the bad combination of paint, primer or thinner.
Unfortunately BMF is not available where I live. The best thing I can find here is Studio 27 chrome decal which is still too thick for some uses. :(
The left exhaust has been fixed. I noticed that it moved out of place after I posted the picture. :grinno:
