Totally Innocent Question

My fiance and I were looking into getting him a Maxx this summer when the dealer (on the Southside of Chicago) told us that might now be a good idea, (and I am quoting) "seeing as how white you kids are; you might get some attention from the police you might not be looking for."
I'm not at all racist, but I don't want to be pulled over simply b/c of the car I'm driving.
Is this the new gangster car or something?

That comment was ridiculous. I'm white. I've only had mine for 2 1/2 weeks, and yes, I get stares constantly because folks don't know yet what the heck it is. I DO fear that I'll be pulled over by a cop who just wants to know what it is.
Unlikely, but it might have been the salesman's way of telling you to wait (assuming you don't currently own a GM product) for bigger rebates coming either this month or next.
OR, it might have been his way of trying to get rid of you (don't know your ages), if you're both quite young, doubting your credit or something like that.
Personally, in all my trevails in various forums, I don't think one person that owns one has been black, but who knows?

Getting pulled over for being white? That goes against everything here where I live. The minorities are the ones that get pulled over by the po-po. Things are different here, so that concept is weird to me.
Anyways, I don't know why the salesman would say that about the Malibu. It's definately not a gangster car or an attention-getter, other than having a new design.
I don't think the sales guy liked you guys. No offense, but his claims don't make sense to me. Probably the age thing.

This is Chicago- if you don't look like you belong, they will pull youover simply to ask why you're in a neighborhood in which you don't belong.
As far as the comment being made, I still have to wonder WHY he would say that if there were no truth to it.

Well, obviously there are some bad Chevy dealers out there. My sincere advice is to not try to do business with that dealer, but move on to another one. I'm sure in your area you have several to choose from. Let us know how it works out.
