Big block swap?

Does anyone have experience with this- I have a 1979 Camaro, 327 with a 700R4 trans. I'm the original owner and would like to up the displacement a bit. I'm considering swapping in a big block, but as this car has working factory air will it fit with the A/C housing that's on the firewall? Might Vintage Air have a solution? As you can tell I'm not worried about keeping everything "stock," so any input would be appreciated! Thanks.

327 and a 700r4 in a 79? are you sure about that? In any event, the A/C shouldn't be a problem, you should have plenty of room in there for everything.

It was a 305 car originally, and GM had a problem with bad camshafts in those motors, so when my buddy yanked the 327 out of his 69 Impala... as for the trans I had swapped in 3.73 gears about 20 years ago (car had a 2.65 posi!), but with the turbo 350 it was too much for highway use. As the trans eventually needed rebuilding it seemed time to upgrade that as well! Thanks for the input on the BB swap, I've been told the A/C clears if you stick to the short valve covers. Not sure about the exhaust, however...

Could you not buy a big block car back then with AC??? Dont forget to swap to big block motor mounts so you dont have any trouble routing headers.

There were no big block cars made after 1976. A/C shouldn't be a problem. And the motor mounts are the same for the small and big block cars.
