Okay its come to my general Knowledge that threads are getting closed by the handfulls these days. Why? I will tell you why, Post Whoring. Something that needs to die off completely. I swear, I like to come in and read a post filled with an intelligent answer, not just a smiley or a bunch of smileys. I know a few mods would back me up on this statement. I know off topic is for off topic things. But, EVERYONE strays from the general Idea of the thread. Oh for example a thread title might be "What do you think of dating" and the first post will be logical, and then the damn bloody post whores come in and take over and RUIN the thread or threads. COME ON PEOPLE get your shit together, AF is supposed to be good, not a post whoring forum for christs sakes. So, I'm asking you people, THINK LOGICAL, post in a conservative way, not just a couple smileys every god damned post. I'm sick of it, and I'm sure as hell alot of others are too. But, all i am stressing is. THINK BEFORE YOU POST. If you have nothing to offer to the thread, STAY OUT OF IT!!!!! Don't come in and Ruin it. I've seen some really good threads get shot down from random acts of Post Whoring, and its really damn pathetic. But, people GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER. Lets keep the dicussions on a logical and informational basis. NOT POST WHORING BASIS.

Yeah - what he said! :D

Seriously though, its not all that bad. The whoring comes and goes. Dont let it get to you or you'll get a bit stressed everytime you visit any forum.

We've had quite a few members added in the last few months and like most new people, they post to a lot of threads. Even if its just a smiley. Given time, I think most people break out of the whoring habbit. Soon their will be enough seasoned members to dilute the number of new ones who might be getting carried away with their posting.

First of all....calm down man.

I agree and disagree with you, Freak

Postwhoring has its time and place, I agree not in every thread. There are certain members who are more guilty of this than others (Im not going to post any names).

I think that some ppl actually care about there post count and "whore it up" just to get there count up. I personally wouldnt come to a board just to get a high postcount, its all about the quality of the posts. Sure its fun to make a few lame and or whore type threads now and again, such as the crews, but as long as they dont drag out too far, I dont have a problem with it.

A board like AF would be a bit dry without whoring, dont you think?

To respond to you I know off topic is for off topic things. But, EVERYONE strays from the general Idea of the thread. Oh for example a thread title might be "What do you think of dating" and the first post will be logical, and then the damn bloody post whores come in and take over and RUIN the thread or threads.

This sometimes is more a moderaters decision which can be quite hard for them. I notice alot of threads have been posted to by 90% of the active OT members, stays on topic and then it gets whored. If there is nothing left to say on the topic, the thread should be closed before it gets too far off-topic. This is a hard decision for moderators, as they have to make the decision as to when a thread has run its course, without closing it premeturly.

Yogs also makes an excellent point. Given time, I think most people break out of the whoring habbit.

I think most ppl "whore" a bit excessivly at first, and most do grow out of it. Im as guilty as anyone. There was a couple days where I broke the 50/day mark and only posted in OT those days. I have changed since then, and yes, some of my posts are still crap, but I usuially have something relevent to put in there.

I think OT is OT. Nothing should be deleted, and nothing should really be closed. Hell, I'm even all for removing post counts from showing up under your name, but showing up in the profile. Or better yet, take out post counts from being recorded in the OT forums. But once the whoring goes outside of OT, and into the tech forums, and what not. Thats where it needs to be stopped. But I have yet to see it happen outside of OT.

Im 110% for this idea. I think it would be a good way of getting rid of the problem of ppl that post just for the count, while still allowing ppl to see when someone has alot of posts in the tech forums, which are useful, or shows that they know there stuff.

After re-reading all of this thread., I think the best thing to say is "if you dont like the whoring, dont come to OT."

Well post whoring is one thing you will never get away from. I'll be the first to admit that it pisses you off when it happen's, but i can be guilty of it to.
I think that when "we" start a thread we expect it to stay on topic.....but are all guilty of hacking into another thread at times.

There is no real way to stop it. Nearly every thread is off-topic by the 2nd page at the latest. Apart from maybe being able to edit your own thread you start.....it wont stop.

Try not to let it stress you to much

Actually, there has been a lot of work going on this week to resolve this problem,or at least reduce it....The chat room option is a great idea, and some of us Kiwis have been working on a plan to reduce our part of the problem.(see the sig).

The secret is to keep the fresh stuff coming. As long as people post new threads, there is plenty to read and add to.If there are no new threads,we tend to post repeatedly on the same ones becaues we are bored.

Similarly, when the boards are quiet,we tend to talk to the same people over and over again...the chat room should help solve that, once everybody gets tooled up and into the habit.

The stats page has been modified,I notice, perhaps because too many people were using it as a 'trophy case'.My postcount means very little to me as a simple number, but there are folk out there who get totally anal about theirs.Maybe it's time to do away with the numbers and concentrate on the words.

Hope you will all stick with off-topic and bear with the mods, they are only trying to keep it sweet here!

Once you have posted a thread you don't have any control over it .From how I'm reading it,most of us ignored the crap posts and stayed on the topic of "your" thread.Complaining about postwhores in general (and specific members as well) only seems to result in more spam on the boards.

The hard reality is that any thread is only a blend of the thoughts of various members. You may start a thread and call it yours, but as soon as somebody posts on it,it becomes community property. As such,it is only going to be as good as the stupidest post (unless we choose to ignore that post).

There is a link in every post to report that post to a moderator. If you think that the post is out of order, use it.But the bottom line is,the forum runs on free speech. You can't open a thread and expect people to keep it exactly the way that you want it to be.

No need to start flaming. That will accomplish nothing. Relax, Freak.

I don't see anything runing your thread...
You could have just asked me to delete that, but you just made yourself look like a jackass by overreacting. Maybe you should read towlie's thread in the other off topic forum aobut how AF Isnt (shouldn't be) your life.

I totally agree with Steel. You really need to calm down. a thread is started by someone and then continues with other posts. You should be open to other peoples ideas on your thread and read them. if they are so stupid and "ruin" iy, then just don't read them. It's like that. That's the beauty and fun of these forums and people like you ruin for the newbies that just want to catch up to you "older" people. Just let things be and live with it. Don't let the computer control you.
