1996 Stratus Trunk Question

Hey guys. I have a quick question. My girlfriend just bought a used 96 stratus (2.4L 4cyl). She told me that when she test drove it there was a trunk release lever lying inside the car. In the center console or something....when she bought the car the dealer told her the part wasnt for her car and took it away. When she came down to visit me in her car i did some snooping and found out that there was no trunk release at all inside the car, but when i opened the trunk and looked at the latch...i could clearly see the cable that would normally be used for the release. She has since told me that she has looked up and down all over the inside of the car and cannot find a spot where the trunk lever would even go. I would look myself but we're both home from school right now and 2 hours apart. My main question.. In this car where is the trunk release usually located?...Pics would be greatly appreciated.. The trunk release lever should be located between the driver seat and the driver door. It comes out of the channel below the door, right behind the hump that holds the front seat mount.

If you feel around there should be a hole in the carpet where the lever shoud be.
