How to make a 92 automatic cav go fast

I race a 92 automatic cavalier at a racetrack in Smithton, PA. The rules say that we can not have any kind of turbo or booster kits, and that everything must remain stock. If anybody wishes to view the rules, the site is: http://www.motordrome.com/rules.cfm

The rules for my 4-cylinder class are under the "American Flyers" rules. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I own two Cavi's. The only way I know to make them fast is to push them off a cliff. The higher the better for speed. :-) I guess you could strip them of any un-needed interior componients. These cars do not use a MASS airflow sensor. The fuel/air ratio is fixed for a stock intake. If you do anything to increase airflow then you just run lean. Not much help for speed. Good Luck.

Well, let me re-phrase myself. Everything has to "look" stock. lol What else would be really great, is if anybody knew where to buy a cam for a 2.2. That is, if anybody makes one...

You will need a chip mod as well. These cars will not benifit from a cam without it. You may be able to find an old 2 barrel carb to fit then a cam would work great.

Well yeah. After all, the cam determines how fast the car will go and everything. But I've been to all kinds of different websites and looked through different racing part catalogs, and have still yet to find a cam for it.

You may need to have machine shop custom grind one. You may try looking for offset rocker arms. These will give the valves more lift.

Pistons, cams, heads, pulleys, all good ideas if you can get the chip modified to get more fuel and air in the cylinder.

I would sugest a aftermarket pcm if you can find one.

Far as I know, there is no chip for this car. If you do find one-all it'll do is make it run over-rich, fouling things up.
If you're gonna spend that much money to mod a belly-button econobox, why not just buy a V8 car and mod that to go fast? Plenty of 'em out there cheap.

Racing a Cav is like racing Hondas-Nobody cares who wins ;)

Well, another thing that we have tried recently was in the "carb" we put a new piece in there, but it was off of a 2.2. Now, it seems to be running a whole lot better. If we were to get some other things off of a 2.2, for example a computer and some other goodies, SHOULD it all be compatible?

Compatible, pretty much. Now that you are carburated you can install a cam (find one? or custom) and the increased time the valve is open will let it pull in more air and fuel at the correct ratio. Good Luck.
