My name is Joe and I've been trying to find someone who might have an answer for my 1989 735i electrical issue. The dash board indicates that the parking light is out when sometimes it is and sometimes its not. I have replaced the parking lights, bulbs and the light control module but the problem still continues. If the parking light is out, it comes back on when I restart the car. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.
Regards,
Joe

HI Joe,
your prpblem is the 'parking lamp monitor' relay [ sometimes (wrongly) called the 'daylight lamp' relay ]. it 's in the L/F E-box with the other relays by the LKM you replaced [ which also fail ] it's a 'taller' yellow/orangish color. when you get a replacement be sure to match up the pin #s. it's also the only one like it in the E-box.
Joe, i would appreciate it if you'd post your question and answer on the forum. i've only a limited amount of 'free-time' to do this kind of thing, and like to help as many as possible in the least time.. many of the problems and questions are common [to me] and the more i can share with the better..i think that's what this is all about, i hope.........jb.
Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.
Regards,
Joe

Jeffrey, I replaced the "parking lamp monitor" as you advised. However, the Parking Light indicator still comes on. Sometimes the parking light is on and sometimes either parking light is out. But, if I turn the lights off and then back on, both parking lights come back on. Do you think that there is something else wrong or could it be I purchased a faulty Parking Light Monitor relay?
Thanks for your assistance . . .

Hi Joe, NO, A new relay causing exactly the same symptoms is highly unlikely, but I shall 'endeavor to persevere'.
I may have jumped the gun here without being quite
precise enough. You say 'parking lights. Could you take a moment to detail the physical location of the lamps that fail, i.e., L/F, R/F, L/R, etc..and does the 'Check Control' 'say' only 'parking lamp' or does it also show 'Taillamp Failure'....
thanks Joe, sorry if I've wasted any of your time.

Hi Jeffery . . .
No apology required here . . . I’m just learning as I go. Since I replaced the 'parking lamp monitor' I no longer receive any false 'Check Control' readings for the “tail lights” or "L/R marker lights". The check control only reads “PARKING LIGHT.” Most of the time its the left front parking light that is out but sometimes it’s the right front parking light. To be honest, I didn’t realize that the ‘89 735i had rear parking lights. But when I’ve walked around the car, I haven’t noticed one rear lamp burning when another was out.
Sorry for the dilemma and thanks again for your help . . .

Joe
