replacing DIC

Is it possible to replace the "generic" DIC (the one that only displays a red outline of a car and shows what doors are open) with the one that displays more information such as gas mileage etc..???

not too sure about this since i haven't ever looked into it but i know you can do a swap out with the dic but you'll have to run wires/sensors to whatever was going to be monitored and to the pcm. anyways, i just have to say i hate seeing that car on the dic, i've been thinking of seeing what it would cost to have a custom dic made, but i'm sure once i hear the price it'll be the end of it, i think gm could have put something in there a bit more appealing.
