loose shift knob

ok i was driving home from work and i was tired as shit and when i was shifting into 1st at a light i hadda kinda muscle it in but i guess i only put it into gear halfway so when i started goin i heard this LOUD LOUD clankering klinking sound followed by another loud SNAPBOOM sound. so i stopped and put it into gear fully then drove to the roadside to check my car out. ever since then my shift knob feels really really loose whenever i jingle it in neutral and even when im shifting. should i get this checked out?? bc my car runs completely fine and everything but it feels very loose.
