It's a Paasche H. I practiced with it with water little earlier tonight and I'll NEVER touch a spray can again. I'll try and get some pics up.

Got a little question about the H. When I change nozzles, should I use the tip that is in the same vile as the nozzle?

Cool, good on you, mate! Another one converted. You're modeling will never be the same!

Probably. I don't have a Paasche, so I don't know how they're packaged, but each size tip requires a needle of the same size- they're a matched set.

Putting, say, a fine tip with a medium needle will not work very well, and will more than likely damage the tip. Is this what you meant?

I have a Aztek airbursh with which I use cans of compressed air. Long story short, it drives me bonkers.
Until I get my own air compressor, I'm sticking with ModelMaster spray cans. On my first model I got great results using it.

sure.. IF you get an airbrush to save money, you will need to make a good investissement first (good airbrush and good compressor)
compressed air way is very expensive, and usualy, the airbrush that come with that are the heapest you can find. so you better stick with spraycan
but a nice airbrush (Paasche H isn't a bad choice for a single action) can be cheaper and will produce better result
I also had an astek (A370 I think, dual action) that came with a compressed air can, and I didn'T even finished 1 body before running out of air.. Pure crap.. Now I got a Compressor and I'm waiting a Badger Anthem... The fun will start

I'm having a little trouble with my airbrush. I was practicing with water and was attempting to make really thin lines but when I tried it just splattered everywhere.

geofroley, the Paasche H is a single action airbrush. You can't make thin line that that. You will need a Dual Action Airbrush like the Paasche VL, Badger Anthem/Crescendo, Iwata CR or others..
Single action Airbrush are good to paint body, bot not for making details like interior, chasis and other..

It said to turn down the paint volume and paint closer to the paper. The line got thinner a little bit but not pencil thin.

You need to look in your instruction
painting very close is possible, but you need to put lower air pressure (below 20psi is best, but some airbrush don't work this down)

Do you think it's because I'm using water and I have the wrong tip?

Could be. Try using thinned acrylic paint, it will be a bit thicker and you can see your results better. Try experimenting by spraying onto white paper or something similar like a paper plate.
As for the tip; nozzle, tip and needle work as a unit and all need to be the same size. Try using the smallest needle, back off on the paint flow by closing the tip onto the needle (not all the way closed) and then turning your air pressure down.
You should be able to visually tell which is the smallest needle unit, but if you're not sure, it should have a very tiny number stamped on each piece (at least mine does). It's been a while since I looked, but I think #1 is the smallest.
I've never been able to get a line as thin as a pencil, but I've gotten close to the size of a felt tip marker.

Most single action brushes get down to a 1/8"-1/4" line, depending on the tips, pressure, quality, and paint.
I still have trouble with my double action spraying .7MM lines.

Absolutely not. I am serious. I have sprayed even thinner, but I cant get the long lines of it. I shake a little and it changes thickness. If you need proof, I can fire up my compressor after I move, right now everything is being packed away.

Felt tip marker size is perfect for things I plan on doing. BUt anyway, I do think I'm using the wrong tip for such a thin substance. The directions however do not show how to change tips :screwy:

Well at the current time I'm experimenting with width of the spray and will soon be experimenting with thinning hopefully. But in the future I plan on doing alot of freehand stuff and a thin spray line would be perfect for creating designs and stuff.

If you are doing any designs, or free hand stuff. You need a dual action airbrush. I am an airbrush artist and all I use are dual action airbrushes. I dont know how else you could do the stuff since you need to control paint flow, and air flow all at the same time.
I am about to make a piece for my Shop Logo with some airbrushed flames, it will take awhile to make but I will probably post it later on.

It's not really complicated designs, just color them in kind of thing.

Ok. Because if you were doing variations, or things like skulls or more intricate flames you would need dual action.
