Ok, so now it has come down to this after all the feedback i got from all of yous....either an integra 2nd gen, 240sx s13 or prelude 4th gen.... wat do u guys think, based on me being 16 therefore insurance shoulda be relatively cheap, the car should have a little bit of a fun factor to it and also its gonna be modded later on so........so what now?
please provide specific mods i should purchase and what difference it would make in the car...

Get a 240SX, then save up your money for an SR20DET swap when you are older.

hard choice, I own a 240sx but I will not be biased in my decision. Even though the lude is a FWD, i'd pick it b/c it's faster and the H22 is a good engine. Plus in winter, you can drive in the snow

go for the 240, such a great car. aftermarket is really booming right now. pretty reliable not for sure exactly how reliable, but i will be getting one by summers end. the prelude is also a good choice, with a great aftermarket, not as big as the 240sx rite now, but still huge. i think you should drive both, decide on style and the comfort factor, as both are pretty equal stock wise in performance

fwd sucks in a fast car. if you gun a fwd in the gravel while turning it will scratch the hell out of the sides of the car. I hate understeer!! 240 all the way.

im really not thinking that this kid will want a 240sx, it will be hard to keep traction in bad weather and he will be needing this car for school and such, plus lude's are a little bit more dependable, but if you cant decide, just please dont pick a civic or integra.

eh....okay. also get bags of salt in the trunk/hatch hear that helps (extra weght on rear tires) but i would drive them and see witch on you like the best. i hear that the 4th gen lude can fool alot of people into thinking its rear wheel drive because its so well designed, well thats my veiw.

you've obviously never driven a lude. i can take 90 deg turns at 70. i'd like to see your rwd do that.

Reality check!
I'm sorry but unless you own a race Prelude then you've smoked yourself stupid.
The last car that I heard could do that was a 2000 Mustang Cobra R. That was at 90 mph.
RWD owns FWD any day of the week. If you cant drive RWD in snow then you take your FWD. My car has torque and is driven 365, rain/snow/blazing heat.

Wow, I don't think any car can take a right angle turn that fast!!! Ok, you may approach a turn at a pretty high speed, but then you apply your brake into the turn, for the duration of it... notice the speedo, you're not going very fast at all, and let's not forget that if you brake hard the speedo might have a slight dealy, so you may be going slower than it reads.
If any car went into a right angle turn at such speeds you would go into a skid because the back end would fly out continuing to go straight in the original direction... you may drift and make the turn, but that is a drift, not a turn.

of course any car could do 90° curves at 70, only the radii will differ
if you already know a bit about RWD, it's ok to pick the 240sx
I'm driving an RWD car for about 1 1/2 year or so, mostly in bad weather and it slips soo easily.

I was unaware we were talking curves, the original statement was a 90 degree turn, as in two streets perpendicular to each other, and you make a right on to the cross street, in this case is impossible at such speeds.
As for a 90 degree arc, well, any car can travel around it... it could be a mile long, the test of handling would be how small the radius is.

Well yes, I couldn't imagine a Prelude doing a straigt 90° turn at a crossing with 70mph -
maybe a formula 1 could do that, and only if the street/track is very broad.
Of course a 240sx could simply drift around that curve :icon16:

The Prelude, if aquipped with ATTS, will have a hell of a lot of difficulty understeering, BUT the 4th gen doesn't have that feature, so moot point.

i know this thread is way old but i have to say....some 240sx's came with super hicas...4 wheel steering so that could help out and also like someone else said a 240 could drift it so......lets see your lude do that!!!!! gfg

I guess it boils down to what you plan to do, and what you'll actually do.
If I were in his shoes I'd probably end up going with the Prelude. I'm in the same predicament as him, the problem is, I'm honest with myself. I'm a college student, whatever car I own is my primary transportation, I can't afford a lot of road down time, and I don't have a good mechanic that I'm friends with. If the majority of the previous reasons I listed fit you, then don't get a car that needs a motor swap to outperform your other choices. Motor swaps are a lot of money, they are at least 3 days of downtime, not to mention break-in period, and if you get pulled over and the cop flags you for different than stock engine, you'll have a hell of a time swapping it out for the write-off.
I had considered a project car, but I wasn't liking the idea of having a JDM engine in my car on US streets because of how dickheaded the cops have become lately.
There are more factors than the bang-for-buck that most mechanics apply.

Sigh. If you didn't know, Preludes are some of the best handling cars around, even though they're FWD. And if a Cobra R can do such and such, I'm sure a Murcielago, NSX, Enzo, or a bizillion other cars can do it too. You seem Mustang biased.

Couldn't you get the 240 then save up to turbo it once some suspension mods are done?

240 all the way. SR20DET swap is insane. If youre trying to hook up that much power at the wheels in a Honda you have lost your mind. It can be done, but the 240sx is my pick for a good beginner/project car. Swaps are difficult but if you do swap, swapping in a RWD car just seems alot more sensible than in a FWD car.

mustangs are not great handling cars so i dont know who ur trying to fool. and correct me if im wrong but a 14.7 is WAY slow for a cobra.

this thread is a year old. But anyway, BS for taking 90 degree turns at 70. 14.7 is slow, specially for a cobra. I choose 240 even tho it it way to late.

Mustang Cobra R's are excellent handling vehicles, 1.01g and 71.1 through the 600ft slalom, and Mustangs in general aren't poor handlers either.

My thoughts exactly. I had an opportunity not too long ago to buy a nice 240 for $2,000. I should have bought it instead of my Sebring.
