oil filter stuck

ok, so my oil filter is stuck...I have the worst luck with these things. Every oil change I do I have trouble with the filters. So I just threw my $3 oil filter wrench from autozone as far down the road as I could (again) as the thing is absolutely worthless (again). I am trying using rubber grip pads from the kitchen, and still nothing. I let the car cool down 3.5 hours...maybe that wasn't enough. Regardless, what do you all do when you get one that is stuck. My oil filter wrench(universal my @%%) doesn't tighten enough to grip it, plus it only has little pointless bumps that produce absolutely no grip, so the thing just spins around the filter almost freely. Anybody got any ideas/good suggestions for good OFwrenches? I'm about to stab a flathead through it and use that to twist...

GO FOR IT! I suggest you get a oil filter wrench that fits on your wratchet. it compresses and shrinks to fit the oil filter, it runs for about $8.00 at any Discount Autopart. as for now stab the hell out of it or get a terry cloth, wrap it round the filter to create more volume and use the filter wrench you got to pry it loose.

Haha, I actually think throwing that POS down the street helped, because as soon as I finished my ranting and raving here, and went back outside, I picked up a torque wrench hit the oil filter pretty hard, then grabbed at it again, and ripped it loose, not even 20 seconds after I posted this. So yeah, I'm all done, but for 3k down the road, you guys got any other good suggestions for wrenches or pliers? I've never used the pliers...are they any better?

I don't know which one I use but it's the one where the hole is big but resizes when you use it to grip the oil filter. So just as long as you buy one that won't be extremely big compared to your oil filter, it should grip it fine and the filter should come off easily. I never had any problems with it before...just don't know what's it's called. :o/

I use the K&N oil filter.

It has a 17mm bolt shape formed into the bottom.

If it's just a matter of it being too tight, and you have the other filter waiting to be put on. I'd say just put a flathead through it, make sure it comes out the other end of the filter. Make sure your twisting it in the direction your suppose to be. I sometimes make that mistake myself when it comes to the oil filter, especially when i'm taking it off while facing the front tires of the car.
