unknown tube

Basically a heavy smell of gasoline in our garage led me to check under our cars last night. The gas problem originated from one of my cars, but as i was searching, I noticed something odd. My mom's 97or so impreza sport mini-wagon(sorry I don't know the model name off the top of my head) had a small leak as well. I couldn't identify the fluid, it may just be water, but I did find the origin of the leak. On the passenger side, near the firewall inside the engine bay, a tube was hanging down and dripping fluid onto the lower control arm of the front passenger wheel. At first I thought this was a severed tube, but I couldn't see anywhere where it may have been connected, nor another half of the tube. As well, it was a very clean cut, so it didn't appear to have broken. My mom had driven the car for a half hour or so in traffic with the AC on about an hour before I found this leak. Is it some kind of waste-tube for the AC? I honestly have no idea what it's purpose is, and if it is supposed to just abruptly end like it does. Any info or guesses would be greatly appreciated. I checked the important fluids and none seemed to be low.

How much of the fluid was there and what was the color? Sometimes when you run a car with the AC on and stop/turn off the car water drips down. If it's green or orange you have a radiator leak . Not sure if subaru radiators have an over flow chamber or not, if they do it might be the overflow overflowing.

That sounds like the AC drain tube, the AC drain on my Forester comes out over the control arm.
