ported box help

I just got my 2 kicker S12L7's in the mail along with my hifonics bx1500. I was wondering if anyone can explain to me how to build a ported box. And what size i should build the manual says that street bass size you can be heard from blocks away i dont really care about that. But the spl box says its just truely awesome and can win spl contests....thats what i want. But what kind of bass would the subs pick up if it was in this box i dont want them just playing nothing but low bass then i wouldnt hear the high and mid bass. Atleast i dont think it would be able to....if anyone can fill me in i would appreciate it.
