I have a 83' S-10 4spd 4x4 that need new shocks. I don't have a lift kit and don't plan on installing one any time soon, but would like too. Anyway what are some good shocks. I don't need anything super heavy duty, but I don't want anything that you can just pick up at Wal-Mart. There is are two brands I am looking at on jcwhitney.com. The first one is HECKETHORN® ROUGH COUNTRY® NITRO 9000 GAS SHOCKS. Has anyone heard of these shocks? Are they any good. The second set is RANCHO® RSX™ PREMIUM-GRADE SELF-ADJUSTING SHOCK. I have heard good things about Rancho. My dad used to have them on is 85 Bronco. The rought country shocks are more in my price range. Any feedback about these shocks would be great. Thanks a lot.

First, refer to the post 4x4 ride is horrible. It's very recent and may provid some help for you.

I've got a 94 S-10, 4 door. I have Rancho RS-5000 shocks all around. It rides a bit rough, but it's a truck, I don't expect it to ride like a caddy. I went with the Rancho's because of their lifetime gaurentee, I've replaced them 3 times. I just walk in to the local Sears, orig. reciept in hand, and exchange the old for new. It costs a few extra dollars at the start, but will make up for it after you change them a few times
