Compression

The celica gts compression is at what 11.0 or 11.5:1. Then why are people so afraid to turbo or supercharge it.... I mean the rsx-s is at 11.0:1 and almost every turbo manufacturer makes one for that... and it has a supercharger available for it.... I personally think the celica could get more out of either one with a few engine mods, but that comes with any car you want to turbo, just that i'd ask....

I wouldn't turbo/super charge the gts or rsx-s, or any car with similar compression ratio, without an engine rebuild (lowering compression). Any aftermarket company that claims you can bolt on a turbo to the RSX-s safely is full of it IMO. Don't expect any reliability or long engine life. If you've got money to waste go for it. Maybe celica owners are more level headed, and realize that the 2zz isn't designed for forced induction...

What celica has 11.5:1 compress ratio?? Thats retardedly high. The 5S-FE came with 9.5:1 compression. 11.5:1 would require super high octane fuel just to make sure it wouldnt grenade itself.

Thats fucked. The only real reason why most people wouldnt slap a turbo on that is because youd have to lower the compression to give it some good boost i guess.

To me, it just means - Forget the turbo, look elsewhere to gain HP. You've already got the good pistons, valves and bottom end.
This is a good thing. Turbos are to make up for poor breathing. Getting the HP from a normally aspirated engine is better for engine life. You can put a turbo on any smuck engine. You have to have a strong engine to get good life from 11.5:1 compression. Bring it on.

You have to have a strong engine to get good life from a turboed engine too. Especially if it gets beaten on alot like my summer car does.

Sure, what I meant was getting hp out of a low-compression engine with a turbo may mean that your are stressing a weaker bottom end.
