My suggestion from my personal experience... Stay away from Kenwood and Pioneer!

Every time I try a pioneer head unit, something craps out on it!.. latested one I had, the liquid crystal screen went to shit.

As for the Kenwood, I'm on my second kenwood CD player... I didn't like the first one.. but I thought I'd give them another try.. and I'll be damned, I don't like this one either.
My current kenwood is actually the 979, and although it has a lot of features, I can't stand the way you access those features... and the actual radio reciever is VERY substandard! I could be parked next to the radio station, and there will still be static.
piece of shit

I personally love all the Sony head units I've had.. and that's what I'm going to get to replace the crap I've got.

I'd also recommend alpine, rockford fosgate, eclipse, and clarion (that new deck with the touch screen they've got is bad ass).

If you have the money, buy the Sony mp3/cd player with active black panel display. It looks sweeeet, and sony products never let me down. That's why when i'm gettin my system its gonna be all sony.

Here's a link to the headunit:

A friend of mine has that unit and loves it.

I wouldn't say Sony speakers or Amps are the best on the market though... but they're 'ok'.

I'm an amature installer, and have been building systems for myself and my friends for years, and you'll never catch me using Sony speakers nor amps in my installs (unless my friends buy them, and are just dying for me to put them in for them).

clarion sounds crappy. their sub control & bass control overlap which sucks. sony is okay. kenwood is awesome.

with all the decks that were mentioned the eclipse or the alpine would probably be the best bet due to time allignment...that used to be a $1000 add on yrs back. it seems nobody really has it except for alpine and eclipse

as for antenna killa :dunno: check your ground or check your antenna. jer says he's never had that problem in 7 yrs installing

replaced the antenna first thing I thought about... still no dice.. and nothing's grounding out anywhere... so I don't know what the deal is...
but beyond the bad radio reception, I do not like the way the menu functions opperate on the kenwood head units.

Oh well... no big deal... I sold the kenwood deck with my Del Sol anyways :D
I'm sending my old, beloved Sony off to be refurbished by Sony, and I'm going to be installing it back into my hatchback. :iceslolan

I have the Pioneer Premiere 860 and personally I love it. It does have Automatic time alignment and EQ setup. Futher adjustment can be done manually after the initial setup with the microphone attachment is done. So far its way better than the Sony Active Panel one I have in the other car, and the Rockford head in a past car. It's my favorite head unit so far, just my 2 cents.

In my experience, Sony head units are crap. the best IMO are Pioneer, Alpine, and Blaupunkt(spelling) Those are the only ones I will ever buy. I personnaly like pioneer the best.

Tho overlooked, JVC has been quite good for me. Others I know, highly recommended them. I had originally thought they were horrible, but they are quite good. I have the JVC KDLH300, it has 50W to four channels, however you dont really get crystal perfect sound without an amp, even with speakers. My amp lets me blast the speakers with no fade out/distortion and the JVC's equalizer is enough to get whatever I want. But if u want a very high quality brand like those, thats cool too, I'd choose pioneer.

refer to my reply ;)

it is hard to say if is better due to it depending to what features you are into. they are equally good

I'm pretty sure that the high end eclipse decks, along with the high alpine, and pioneer ones all use the same sound processors. So pretty much it comes down to which is more visually appealing to you.

i like the sony one cuz it looks purty..lol - and at bestbuy i put my mp3 cd player in one of the pioneer mp3 decks and it kept skipping, and i put it in the sony and it played perfect, but anything could've caused that...

i dunno wha i'm talkin bout n i'm postin cuz i'm bored, but anything is better than my crappy honda stock cassette player!

ooO i have a solution!!!

Buy the deck you think ownz, and send it to me and i'll "test" it for you

I have had a Sony deck for about 18 months now and I like it...idk what model it is or anything, just one of those regular cheapish ones. My friend had a Panasonic Ghost and after 13 months it would start to overheat and not play cd's anymore.

Can you get the eclipse off of ebay? I got the Premiere Pioneer 860 off of ebay for 320 instead of $500-550.

Awesome choice - I was going to suggest it - I've seen and had lots of decks, and none have compared to my Eclipse deck I bought last year. EXTREMELLY clean sound, lots of control, easy to use, and well worth the price for the security features. Best deck I've ever owned and heard. Very good for SQL competitions and just plain old sound quality.
