Hi my friend just brought a new Prelude without the owner manual. It's a 94 Vtec 5sp with only 81500 miles for roughly $4200. What i need to know is what the rpm/speedometer read out for each gear.

Right now i'm just shifting by ear, and i don't think i'm that good yet. So knowing the rpm/speedometer read out for each gear would be nice.

I would also like to know is it normal for prelude to Idle at 2000rpm? Because mine idle at 2000 rpm, and the rpm go up pretty fast in first gear. I was teaching my friend how to drive stick and have to tell him to keep an eye out for red line.

Is there a way for me to check to see if the clutch's stock or an aftermarket? The previous owner say stock but it definitely doesn't behave like one.

Thank you ( ind advance)

well, i cant help u abut the gearing and speed because i have teh SI prelude, btw ur makin it sound liek u dont have a tach, :screwy: , but to answer ur question about the idle, no the prelude is suppose to idle i belive 800 rpms but anywhere from 8-9 hundred is ok, 2000 is way way to high.

You want to shift at 7000rpm, regardless of what gear. In theory the best possible point to shift is at 6800rpm, but in practice this is overtly difficult due to the vagueness of the tachometer. This is when your engine is at peak horsepower. If you want, I can provide you with gear ratios if you want to know the length of each gear.

An aftermarket clutch would have nothing to do with how fast first gear goes up. I have a high torque capacitance Exedy clutch, but it feels like stock clutch. If anything, he probably has a lightened flywheel, but I highly doubt it.
