I am about to turn 16 and i have about $4500 to spend on a car including mods (if necessary), i have been looking at many cars and i have a few in mind but it is really hard for me to choose which one i should get...so far i've narrowed it down to these cars...
Nissan 240sx s13 ($2000 - $3500)
Nissam Maxima 3rd or 4th Gen ( $2000 - $4000)
Honda Civic SI anything between 88-95 ($1000 -$2500)
Mazda MX-6 2nd Gen or 1st Gen turbo ($2500 - $4000)
Acura Integra 2nd or 3rd Gen ( $1500 - $3500)
Toyota Celica GT-S 5th Gen (I think...) or 4th Gen all trac turbo ($2500 - $3500)
Honda Prelude 4th Gen ( $3500 - $4500)
Volkswagen Corrado ( $2500 - $4000)
Volkswagen Jetta 2nd or 3rd Gen ( $1000 - $3500)
Nissan 200sx (not the s12) ( $2500 - $3500)
I'm more lenient towards the 240, mx-6 and Prelude...is there any other cars i should consider...why or why not?....I would also like to mod the car a bit so please tell me which car i should get along with what simple mods...please be specific...

I'd say get a Corrado, timelessly great looking shape. All the others I saw too much and got sick of.

i think those 2 would be the best for you, the 240 has a huge aftermarket right now.. and you can have a lil fun drifting if you change your suspension, the prelude is such a sporty car, i would want one.. but i have an accord -_- hah

What i would recomend is a nice safe FWD car without too much power. I know I might sound like your parents but in a frew years you'll look back and realise how bad you were at that age.
Till you lean properly how to control a car, especially in emergency situations, drive carefully on the road, do NOT race on the road, and take some driving schools (evolution, barber etc) and attend some autox events.
About mods, feel free to hang around our tech forums. We'll help you with any questions about modifications. And do not do any suspension mods(especially amateur mods) till you learned how to control that car. Certain toe changes at the rear during cornering can spin you out in a fraction of a sec (just as an example). Chassis setup/suspension geometry is about the trickiest part of a car.

I agree, and with that said I would say between the Celica GTS on the grounds that I think they look good... I cant comment on there performance vs any other cars such as the prelude though...

A 16 year old with a car is going to race, drive fast, and do stupid stuff. Its just an inevitable part of life, doing that makes you mature and become a better driver.
As long as you dont seriously injur or kill yourself (or another person) in the process off learning, its all fine.

i'll have to show my biased side again but from that list, i would go for the prelude. maintenance costs are something that may be otu of your budget so that knocks out any vw (compared to honda, toyota or nissan) the mx6 is just boring to drive and pretty slow. maxima's are nice but do you really need a family car?
i agree with aznxthuggie, the prelude or the s13 should be the top 2. then pick from those. i'll recommend a prelude everytime. yes, i would be biased. :p

I'd spent it on looks. rice it up a bit.
no seriously, clean it up, get some things repaired or rebuilt.
that's most reasonable, it's got power enough for your age.
if you get an 180sx with the CA18-DET engine, you can think of some nice exhaust+downpipe and water injection + raising boost after you drove it a year or so.
don't be stupid and kill yourself

edit: oh, or just pick the prelude, it's engine is very very reliable I heard, that's also very important for a young guy like you

get a front tower bar and open air filter for $50-100, you'll probably need the rest for gas, insurance, taxes, tags, and other repairs and maintenance.

phhhbt, all he needs is a car with a first aid kit, then all he needs to do is touch it as he lies dying in 1 million pieces. It would surely restore his health 50%.

Mutual funds are the shit. I put $200 a month into a mid-cap, fairly secure one, and I'm only 18. Imagine when I'm 30 :P

Yeah but than only works if you are injured, if you die you have to be reloaded at the hospital and start from scratch with a new unmoded car and 0 driving experience.

No no no!!! It depends on when you last updated you records at the hospital, you could still have a few mods to your car and a bit of experience if you were wise to update your data at the hospital.

Well I guess you're right, but there will always be the inherent danger that your small brother, (who is a total riceboy btw). Will save up his personal data at the hospital, whithout bothering to create another separate file for himself, replacing your data with his. So when they will try to reload you you'll end up being some pimple faced 14 year old rice boy.

ok im not sure where u could pull a teg for 1500-3500 dollars, but if you can, go for that. Otherwise, the prelude is top choice.

okay here is what i suggest to you. and its what i did (im very happy) go for a s13 but limit it to 2k and nothing over. s13 are cheap cars and are big in japan because of that. for some reson, here in the states people say "yeah i just got my new s13 and it was only 5k" thats too much for a car like this stick to 2000 and spend the rest on mods.
