my roof window usually does that. I dont know why. everytime i hit a bump it sounds like it bounces off and back on it makes a ugly sound. and also when i close my door hard enough the roof jumps a little.

when my 1g sunroof whistled it was because the screws for the height adjuster were loose so it didn't close tight. not sure how the power sunroofs are setup but there's probably something loose where the sunroof attaches to the motor

It's funny that this thread came up, cuz I just happened to take apart my whole moonroof fixture yesterday afternoon. I can't stand the rattles I get from it when I'm on bumpy roads. Mine's a 2G, but I dunno if the 1G's are the same. It's actually real easy to take apart.

You first unscrew the 6 torx screws that hold the window to the track glider piece (I dunno what it's called, but I think you know what I mean). The window comes right off.

Then there's a metal strip that runs across from the drivers side to the pass. side, in the rear part of the moonroof area. It is held in by two phillips sheet metal screws and comes right out.

Then there are like 4 more torx screws (the torx size is one size smaller than the ones that hold the glass to the track glider piece) that hold the track to the roof of the car itself. You can unscrew these and then with a bunch of wiggling, take the tracks off.

The gliding mechanism actually works by moving a big flexible metal wire on each side that runs hidden in the tracks, and dissapears into the front roof area, where the motor must be.

I found the problem with mine. It actually turned out to be that the little rectangular metal piece that the track glider rides on, is slightly smaller in width than the track so there is a little play which causes the loud rattle sound. I don't think there's much that can be done about this except get a new moonroof assembly. I guess the tracks just loosen up after some time.

One idea I came up with was to find some sort of robust plastic coating that I could coat the little rectangular metal pieces in, so that there would no longer be metal-to-metal contact, thus reducing the rattle. But I don't know if this exists...actually, I haven't really looked, so if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

What I did do to help reduce the rattle, was clean out the tracks really well, re-greased the track with thick wheel bearing grease, tightened up all loose screws, and put everything back together, and it has quieted a good bit.

Wish I had taken pictures to show everything I was talking about, but I hope at lease some information has been obtained from what I provided.
