'98 Regal Blower Motor

I have a '98 Regal and just started having problems with the blower motor not working. Most of the time it only works for a few seconds and then turns off and when it does work the fan has to be on high. It does this for both the air and heat. I also noticed that when this happens the little light for the rear defrost goes out as well. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

It sounds like you may have a bad blower motor resistor. I'd guess that they cost no more than $30. It probably isn't hard to install, but I don't know where it is located.

Ruley73 is right about the resistor. It is located under the dash next to the fan motor. You may want to consider replacing the fan too as it may be going bad as well, since you need to remove it to replace the resistor, replace the fan at the same time. Not absolutely necessary though.

Hope it's not too late to reply; had same problem with 98 Regal, I replaced $250 dash control module that contains all the heat / ac controls and also the $20 temp control relay located under the dash, both parts did not correct the problem. Took car to Buick dealer; they determined ignition switch was the problem, it had an intermittent short. They replaced switch for $300 and car is working fine.

Jerrygoodwrench. Had the same exact problem and found the ign switch to be the problem..Changed it myself but is was no fun what-so-ever. The new switch was 116.00 at the dealer.. Good luck.

I have a '92 Regal. The fan for the AC stopped working one day in all modes except high. It's cold when it blows in high. Just won't work at all in lower modes. Could that also be the Blower motor resistor???

Yes that is definitely a bad blower motor resistor.
