2001 Astro Van stalls

I have a 2001 Astro Van that runs exceptionally 99% of the time. Unexplainably the van stalls while in use when engine idles at a stop. This problem has been going on for over a year. We have had it in the service shop 4 times. The first the dealer shop could not get it started but was too busy to work on it then. After that they van started every day for a month before I took it back. Within one weeks use the stalling problems re-occurred. I returned the van to the dealer shop again. Again they could not get the van to stall. I convinced the dealer to replace the fuel pump. This appeared to work for about 3 months. I have recently experienced the staling problem. The deal still can not get the van to stall. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this and been able to resolve the issue? I like my Astro Van and would like to get it fixed.

PCV or EGR valves might cause this, or plugged vacuum line (or crimped line)

Must be a common problem; just read this from another person. When my Astro started dying all the time for no reason, I took it to the shop. Same thing; they can't get it to do it. Changed out all kinds of things at great expense. Finally, I Told them to check the fuel pump and filter. Guess what? The filter was totally clogged. Changed that--pump was OK--and things are great. Hope this helps.

I Have Had The Same Problem (engine Stalls - While Driving And/or At A Stop) And Had Following Replaced W/out Solving The Problem: Fuel Pump, Fuel Injectors, Spark Plugs; It Ran For About A Month Without Stalling, But Now It Is Doing It Again?!

It's Gotta Be Something Electrical. Computer Chip Or Something Like That. Because The Engine Just Shuts Off Like You Turn Your Ignition To Off.

Had similar problem and read a thread about putting lacquer thinner in the tank. I didn't want to do this and decided to put a cleaner and changed the filter. Now it's running great and not stalling when cold. I plan to put another cleaner when the tank is low. If it works for a while when the filter is changed, then probably the system is dirty and could use a cleaning.

I finally came across a competent mechanic who was able to solve my stalling problem. He popped the hood a immediately figured out that the vaccum hose of the EGR valve came off and took care of it with a clamp and my ongoing stalling problem!!!

Thanks to all who have contributed. My problem appears to now be successfully resolved with a replaced PCM. This site has been a tremendous help.
