1989 Fuel door wont open

Just bought this 89 and I cant get the push button in the glove box to open the fuel door and I need gas......

There should be a pull cord in the hatch, on the back near the passengers side tail light.

and, when you get a chance get your hand behind the dash where the button is and make sure the wiring is secure. you may have to take the glovebox out to do this, but that's just a few screws in the very bottom of it that hold the hinge to the dash.
