im confused - how do the performance chips work - or the ones that increase rpm span? wouldn't they just be horrible for your engine if it wasn't built?

if you get b18c1 head or b16a head - the vtec one - and put it on your ls - what will happen to your rpm range? and how much more should do when doing a conversion like that?

well first off those performance chips are a gimick for the most part, every single car is different and reacts differently to every driving style and environment...and those chips are all mass produced, you would be better off having your car customed tuned at a dyno shop. but typically those chips just add more fuel and change the shift points of the transmission if it is an automatic. now as for the vtec head on an ls. that is called LS/vtec, there is lots of information on this forum as well as others about it, lots of info for you to read, but as far as rpm range its the same as the stock LS unless you reinforce the bottom end. some people say they rev there ls/vtec to 8-9K all the time with stock bottom end but they are sitting on a time bomb imo.
