I just got a Audi form online but I dont know if it is the 30v or the 12v because it was made in 1997 and that was the same year that they started making the 30v but suppositly in Europe and the 12v in America. All i know is that it is a SFI engine.

the 96 and 97 2.8 V6's were 12 valves...they started making the 30 valves in january of 98...so yes yours is a 12 valve...which makes 18 less hp...if youre pissed that you got the 12 instead of the 30...well you should have done youre homework before you bought the car...and that goes for any car...if you want to do mods to it it's going to be tough to find places because apparently the companies dont like the computer system in it so they dont make anything for it...but ive found some good places for my 96...i havent bought anything yet...cause things just aint free...but you should try tap1.com , motodyne.com , or lltek.com ...ive found stuff id like to get...like the supercharger from motodyne...its a sweet rig...anyway that should be enough to answer your original question

if you want more power go witht eh 30V. If you want better gas milage, go with the 30v. If you want more mod avil. go with the 30v.

not just that, all the 30Valves are going to be newer than the 12Valves anyway so you win both ways ;)
my dad duped me by keeping the 2.4 30V and selling me the 2,8 12V. having driven both of them, the 2.4 whips the 12V on acceleration ;) evan with the 400cc deficit

i was thinking he might be talking about an engine they made but only put in eurpoean cars...i know they have some engines that dont send to the states...but then his profile says hes from cape town, south africa so maybe they have one there...but i still didnt think they made a 2.4 engine...but i could be wrong

No seriouslty it's a 1999 A4 2,4 30valve NA engine, it's really sweet. the cars handling feels really light compared to my 2.8
and for you unbelievers... goto http://www.audi.co.za
click on 'A4'
click on 'Specs & Pricing'
and you'll be able to select the 2.4 engine from a drop down list... I cant believe finally South Africa has somthing America doesn't. Unbelievable :)
