Some quick KA24DE questions

howdy,

Im probably about to get a 92 240 HB, with a ka24de thats got 180k miles. Ive only got a budget of about 3000 dollars for parts, and looks arent too big of a deal (<3 power).

anyway, I was planning on turboing the ka24de, as I plan on doing mostly drag race anyway. I was reading some of the older posts about ka24de-t, and some of the mentioned piecing together your own turbo kit.

this is supposed to be cheaper, but I was wondering what parts would be needed? I suppose turbo, manifold, I/C, IC piping, BOV, wastegate, and downpipe, possibly fuel upgrades?

What about the computer? will the stock MAF recognize boost conditions and adjust accordingly? or will I have to get it dynotuned?

another question I had, is the KA24DE-T good for alot of top end power? I'd really like to beable to have alot of top end power...just walking away from something on the freeway is completely awesome.

I suppose for starting out, with the limited budget I have, I would like to see 13's, with the possibility of upgrading for better performance later. what are some good websites to look at for getting turbo parts?

also, Ive found a rebuild kit online for about 800 dollars that includes forged pistons for an 8.5 CR, would this be a good idea? I really plan on rebuilding the engine if I am going to turbo it (180k miles is kinda high, and Id ratehr not risk it)

would it allow me to run higher boost for everyday driving?

thanks for any help yall can give me

don't know much about the turbo parts never had a KA but, upgrading the pump is as easy as finind one off a 300ZX TT, rebuilding is a good idea.
Ka is not good at top end power, it is a truck engine, has good bottom end torque but can't rev high, for that you will need the other japaneese counter parts. You could precision balance your reciprocating mass and lightened for high RPM, have a head job, and better valve train, this will give better RPM capabilities and still retain the fast accel of the KA. then you will have the best of both worlds but holes in your pockets.

i have a turbo ka and run 15 psi daily driven besides a boost spike i had a few days ago i hav never had a problem with it ran for close to a year boost spike was from manual boost control adjuster backing out. i can out run 350 z take off thru top end i have raced mustangs and camaros and won both top end and take off and this 95 is an auto !!! if you need parts i can get you t-3, manifold, 38mm wastegate, intercooler, 370cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump, you will need fuel management i use emanage but its a pain to learn if i had it to do again i would use safc2 and msn boost timing master. i can get these items to you for 1500.00 then you only have to get intercooler piping fuel management ebay has these things cheap i believe that will leave you a little over a thousand left and with that i would do head work. good luck

180k? Do a compression test. The factory compression is 179psi and the minimum is 151. You shouldn't have more than 14psi between the cylinders or something is wrong. 240sxforums has a whole section on this. Ebaymotors is also a good place to look for parts(budget). On your engine, a nice 5psi setup non intercooled(for now) would be pretty nice. You are looking at about 200hp. Now you can always go to a junkyard and look for a lower milage KA. 5psi requires no fuel or ignition mods. If anything a FMU would do. Face it, if you don't rebuild, you are not going to be able to run a lot of boost. I'm glad to see another person going for KA-T.
