Roof racks ..Yakima Thule?

I have a cooper S on order and have rack questions. I am told the rack is detachable from the roof. How does it come off and what is left exposed on the roof when the rack is off? Also will the cross bars from Mini accept Yakima or Thule rack accessories? Jeff
