Sorry I did not word that right, If the heater core was bad, then why would there be a puddle behind the passenger seat?, Besides when you have the climate contorl set to cold, their is a vacume accuated valve that block flow to the heater core.

My heater core just went bad too and I just had the dealer replace it. It cost me $457.33 ($186.00 - Labor; $271.33 - Parts). My actual bill was $959.00 though because I had them do several other things that needed to be done.

Another thing we have experienced that causes a puddle on the rear flow behind the pasenger seat is related to a drainage problem. If the drain is plugged the overflow can run down the center console to the rear floor, passenger side. If you find clear water, and no anti-freeze, this is likely the problem. We had the problem in the Summer of 2000

I had the same problem on my 96. I pulled all of the carpet out and had my son run a hose over the entire car and could not find a leak. Then I noticed that when the air conditioning was on the water that was leaking out of the drain hole on the evaporator housing was running right back into the car. I ran a bead of silicone around the drain tube and it took care of my problem. I'll bet I had at least 1.5 gal of water on the passenger side of the car. If you pull the carpet back you should be able to see were it runs back into the car on the passenger side up on the firewall. Good luck

You have a ac drain plug on rt front that may be clogged. Before replacing heater core, I would make sure that there is no blockage causing ac drain to back up.

I have the exact same problem with my 95 Riv. I've been to many web sites pertaining to Buick Rivieras and in every forum I've visited, there were several folks who have this water soaking the carpet problem. Mine showed up in the carpet in the rear passenger side. Also under the seat where the battery sits, there was about 2 inches of water. No smell to the water, so I KNOW it's a condensation situation. It only happens after extended use of the air conditioner. I don't know why anyone would think it's the heater core, because if it were, the fluid would smell like antifreeze. I haven't had the money to get mine into the shop, but now after reading your post, seems I can probably get my neighbor to seal it for me. Glad I visited here. GM should have put a recall on this because of the fact that so many people are experiencing the same problem. Thanx for your post.
