Coolant - filled 65/35. Will this be a problem!?!

I "assumed" that my coolant reservoir was a gallon, so I dumped in half a gallon of water and then I didn't quite get a half gallon of Dex-cool put it before the reservoir was completely full. My best guess is that it's 65% water and 35% dex-cool, instead of the 50/50 it's supposed to be. My plan is to keep topping it off with Dex-cool, until I have half of it in the reservoir. Does anyone this this will be a problem or have any suggestions/advice? Thanks in advance.

this won't be a major problem, but keep an eye on your temp gage! especially on a hot day. with such a little % of dexcool, the boiling temperature will be lower than it should, and the freezing temperature higher. keep an eye on it, and you should be fine

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe it will really affect boiling point. Straight water actually cools better, but don't ever do it. Antifreeze does just that, keeps it from freezing. More importantly, it has special additives in it that keeps your water pump lubricated. Also has corrosion inhibators so corrosion doesn't form. The main thing that affects the boiling point is the radiator cap, or as long as the cooling system is pressureized to the right spec, it should not boil.

Most cars, however, run between 200 - 220 *F

the dex-cool has boiling protection up to 265*F (not that its safe to run at these temps)

water will cool better... get it to 60/40 or 55/45 and that should be perfect

The more water you have in the system, the lower the water will boil. Like one reader said, water boils at 212 degrees. Antifreeze raises the boiling point. A 50-50 mixture will freeze at -34 and boil at 265. Walmart sells a inexpexsive tester made by Prestone for checking this out. If you notice on the tester, where -34 is on one side (50-50) the oppsite side at the same point is 265 degrees. To answer your question, less water than 50% is not acceptable.
