Rpm Limiter

Ok engine is up and running, now alls i need is to figure out how to raise the rpm limiter, right now it cuts off at 4.5-5k rpm i want to up that to at least 6k anyone know how i can go about changin that or if need be remove the rpm limiter thx

That rev limiter is there for a reason. You'll blow it up after a couple hits past 5000 rpm. It's not built to rev that high.

actually a stock sunfire se's rev limiter should be at 6.5 rpm, any higher trim level than that is from 6.75-7 rpm...depending upon what kinda of motor sunfired got dropped in...it shouldnt really be that low...you have to remember this is a 4 cylinder we are talking about...power is made at higher rpm.

the motor is the stock 2200 sfi 2.2l from the 2000 sunfires, but it seems to rev really low and cut off at 5k which isnt going to cut it if i plan to do any modifications to the engine, as for blowing it out as dodge said i doubt that as the redline is at 7k rpm, all i have to do is to keep it from redlining.

Redline should be around 6250-6500 in gear, but the limiter won't allow you to rev higher than the 4500-5000 if it's an auto being revved in park.

yup i see your point....i tried reving it in neutral and yes it is an auto but is there anyway i can raise that limit at all?? thx

There is basically no way that I know of to raise the limit with the stock computer, unless you drop some serious bucks into it and are using a stand-alone engine management system.

the engine management sys is prolly the only way to do that, you could talk to your local speed shop or whatever and see if an ecu rewrite might be able to do it as well...but that will still run you from about $300-450 or so
