v8 conversion possible on 2000 v6 Mustang???

I have a 2000 Ford Mustang with a v6... i love the car, hate the v6. I plan on keeping the car around til the end, so if someone can help me get some cobra power in my life i'd appreciate it.

don't do it, it's too expensive. Plus it will eventually depreciate the value of your car believe it or not.

I don't think he cares about depreciation if he plans on keeping it until the end. It will be lots of time and money though.

Everything is possible it just depends on how deep your pockets are. If your rick why not just buy the cobra?

yeah, he's right... i could care less about the monetary value of the car. i'd buy a cobra, but it wouldn't be "the stanger" , it's priceless to me. so how much work are we talkin here

Ford also sells the 99 Cobra engine through Ford Racing for about $6,000. Then comes swapping the computer and all the wiring. Not saying it's easy, but it can be done.

It can be done and I understand sentimental attachment to a car but when it come to the mod motor years it ends up being cheaper or about even to just sell ya 6-shooter and buy a GT or Cobra Stang.

On a car like mine, which was a conversion car it can be fairly cheap and easy, just because of the amount of parts and donor cars around. Not to mention their cheaper because of the age.


On a newer car, it could get very expensive and may not be worth it to you in the end, where you could have picked up a GT for maybe the same price as the conversion car.

It won't depreciate the valve of the car at all. It's just not going to have as much value as a real GT will. It's still going to have the same market value as any other base model Mustang will have. Such as if the car were stolen or totaled, you will get covered for a base model Mustang, not a GT Mustang.

puttin that motor into the car is only the start,need better trans,like a world class t5,then better rearend and different gearing,and if u got motor u need suspension to put the power down,so it would be way more cost effective if u jes bought a cobra

From what I understand so far, i'll need a new computer, trany, drive train, suspension, rear end, exhaust, etc. So the way i see it, i'm gonna spend close to the same amount if i buy a cobra convert the same year as mine. My car is paid off, so if y'all think my car would be as solid now as after the conversion i'm probably going to do it. oh, and if someone could throw out an idea of the total costs i'm lookin at that'd be cool too.

I'd say around 15-20k... probably closer to 20. 10 for the motor, at least 2k for a good trans.. and if you go for the cobra IRS, thats going to set you back a good ammount I'd imagine... just a WAG, $2.5k. then you need a driveshaft(400 for aluminum), all the shift linkage for your new trans($500), the computers wiring etc is at least another $1000, exhaust I'd say $150 if you do the work yourself(got a welder?), $400 if you have a shop do it. Suspension is a whole 'nother game, depending on what you want, could be as cheap as a few hundred bucks for the basic springs and shocks, to thousands for a real high quality suspension and steering setup.

duplox,u r very right about everything but the labor,they charge 400 dollars these days to put a lift on a truck,for all the shit he wants to convert to ,id say hed be talkin at least AT LEAST $2000 if not more,sean russel for the money ur puttin into this u could get a saleen s281 or s351 for lik 22k

I was referring to just the exhaust - I assumed he'd do the work himself, otherwise... just buy one. Definately not worth it if you have a shop do this. I don't know what shops charge really, I do all the work myself... Except engine block machining.

k-member, motor + trans, rear end, ECU, wiring harness. If you have a cherry picker, basic hand tools, and a lot of patience you can do it yourself. Don't waste 10K on a cobra motor.

yeah, i would have to have almost all of the work done by a mechanic too. so y'all think i should just ditch the v6 and go for a saleen or cobra...

Just do what you feel you like the most and can afford. Don't do something you will regret.
