Is this possible with H23a Cam gears?

So I was looking around all the 4th gen Si pages that I could find on preludecrazy.com, and I came across this one. This guy says with simple bolt ons and some of the "free mods", AEM cam gears alone dropped his quarter mile 6 tenths of a second at +3 Intake and -1 Exhaust settings. If you have time, read his modifications and racing pages. I was just wondering if these cam gears adjusted correctly can really make that big of a difference? Any input is appreciated.

No. Unless he took his car to a dyno, that was blind tuning. The fact of the matter is, cam gears alone will do you very little good. They can be used with the stock cams, of course, but the gains from this combination is not significant enough to justify the costs. If you intent to get cam gears, it's essential also to get aftermarket cams. And you also have to realize that you'd need to bring it to a dyno to tune to see any gain at all. Note that should you ever wish to go turbo, this set of cam and cam gears are rendered unviable and you'd have to get some new turbo cams. However, you do have the satisfaction of knowing that for NA, cams and cam gears combined with a little proper tuning goes a long ways.
