acceleration on an automatic

I have an automatic Honda civic DX 95.

I have had a problem with overheating, though it hasn't shown up much since I replaced the radiator cap.

I normally accelerate quickly, usually I would push the gas until for a couple seconds, release hear the gear shifted, push the gas for another couple seconds, release until the gear shifted, and continue until I hit about 80kmh.

I've noticed my engine gets hot very quicky while doing this, and for the rest of the time after doing this, even when I'm driving slow or idling the temperature rises. When I cruise at higher speeds it cools down.

I've also tried accelerating very slowly, but after I've accelerated like previously said, it would still be very hot on the temperature gauge. Yesterday, when it overheated I put the fan on the hottest and and turned the fan on the to highest speed. It managed to cool the temperature a bit.

Now, I tried driving very slowly continuously and really being gently without accleration too hard and the car doesn't get hot, but this is very slow and even slower acclerations...

Am I pushing the car too much with the way I accelerated? What is the best way to accelerate with an automatic?

Do you think something else may be wrong with the engine?

i would check there isnt any air bubbles in the system, so bleed the system again just for insurance. start there, if you can pressure test the system to see there isnt any leaks. basically check over the car for any obvious faults. let us know from there. also sometimes the sensor for you heater gauge faults on those things and gives you a bad read. get a manual on trouble shooting the coolant system. i would look it up for you at work but its saturday night and we arent open again till monday.

that used to happen to me, but after jumping the fan, it went away...seems the temperature fan control sensor might be at fault therefore the fan not going into work until much higher temperatures are reading.....i would suggest jump the fan , if it stays cool, change the sensor

I changed the thermostat and now the engine stays at the coldest point for about 5 -10 minutes before finally warming up to midpoint while driving.

I never noticed this before.

But atleast its not overheating!

:p

you might want to try driving it like an automatic was intended to be driven. Just push the gas and thats it. no need for letting off and slaming gears. IF you want to do that just get a five speed.

Yea, I can do that with my dads Toyota Avalon, it accelerates quick without me having to release.

But, my Honda is different. If I push the gas I can hear the RPM shooting up, and when I release the gas I can quickly hear the transmission shift gears. If I don't, and continue to hold the gas, the engine temp rises quickly and it gets loud.
