Bright Lights Indicator

I have a 1992 Caravan with a 5 speed and a 4 cylinder. My bright light indicator doesn't work and the bulb has been tested. The mechanic thought it might be the multi-function switch (dimmer switch). Anyone had any experience with this? I have a non tilt steering wheel and was told this is an odd thing. Couldn't find the switch at the auto wreckers, and anyway, it looks like it could be an awful job. Appreciate anyone who has experience with this to comment. Thanks.
