Type-SH or base?

which would you prefer? I need to choose. Is the ATTS worth it? Or lose the extra weight and go with the base?

lose the extra weight go w/ the base. You will also be savings some cash too!

get the base, save about $3000, and go buy a Quaife ATB... better than ATTS and it also works in a straight line as a locker.

drive both, see what you like. whether the SH is worth the extra $3000 is up to the driver. some think it is, like myself, others may not. but the thing is my lude is my daily driver so i'm not making it a serious racer. that's where i think you'd prefer the SH. if you're going to mod your car with FI or NOS down the line, then i would jus say get the base. they're both great handling cars, stock to stock and even with upgraded suspension, the SH is the better handler hands down. the stock wheels also look better on the SH IMO. the SH drivers on here are gonna tell you to get the SH, the base drivers will tell you to get the base. i would suggest test drive both and find out for yourself.

get the base bro...waste of money to get the ATTS, it handles fine without it. but Del is right too, drive both and see what you like. personally, i would just get the base...

Now I myself, own a SH and I love the car but before I bought the SH I drove both models. The SH does weigh more but it has 5 more horses to compensate for it while the base model has 195 horses with out the extra weight. I bought the SH due to the rims and the spoiler it comes with on it due to the base model having to add on. So like it was suggested drive both man, and either way SH or base its good to have another Prelude owner on the road.

that's not entirely correct
the 5 speed, whether it's the base or SH has 5 more horses than the SS.

2001 prelude base SS has 195hp
2001 prelude base 5 speed and SH have 200hp. the 5 horses aren't there to compensate for the extra weight of the SH. it's just a matter of the choice of transmission, not model choice. the SH just happens to be available in only a 5 speed.:sun:

If your plan is to spend major bucks and re-do the suspension entirely, then the base is definitely the way to go. But if you're not going to modify it heavily, check out the SH. The difference isn't just in the ATTS, it's got a whole different suspension setup than the base (springs, shocks, camber, caster, arm mounting points, solid radius rods, bump steer, ackermann, etc. ) i.e. the suspension geometry is different.

As has been said, test drive both. See what differences you notice.

Something else you might do if you can find a cool dealer (I did!) - pull the ATTS fuse from the SH and drive it around - as you start to push it, the differences between the SH and base suspension should be apparent.

That being said - the base Prelude suspension is still one of the best of any car in it's class - it's actually incredibly good. Have fun making your decision! :D

Well, I didn't really have much of a choice, because the only ones they had left was the SE model. So that's what I got! I'm so excited. I pick it up tomorrow night after I take care of my insurance. I wish I could've driven the SH though just to make the comparison. But I'm sure I'll be very happy with my SE! Thanks for all your input guys
