Turbo compressors

Is it neccesary(sp?) to make turbo compressors? If so how do I make one and if not is it recomended(sp again. . .bear with me school is out) that I make one?

What the hell is a turbo compressor? I have been around cars all my life and I have no idea what the hell a turbo compressor is.

A turbo compressor would be, in my estimation, the compressor side of a turbocharger. Or perhaps just another term for a turbo, since a turbo does in fact compress air.

To answer geofroley, well... What are you really asking? No, I guess it's not really ever necessary. You certainly don't have to make one for a curbside model or for one with no turbo... If you don't really want an accurate model, then you don't need to make one. But if you want an accurate model of a car with a turbocharger, then I would do it. There are various ways to do it. This one is absolutely great, though not exactly what you're asking after, the first few steps can be altered ever so slightly for what you want. all a turbo compressor is, is the compressor side of the turbocharger...the other side is the turbine...there settled

the compressor is the side of the turbo that pushed the air into the engine. you've never heard the terms "compressor housing" ? :dunno:

and yes if your building a model w/ turbo detail, then you will need both sides IMO.

A turbo compresses air. The entire silver side is the intake compressor. Spool is not a physical part. Spool is what the turbine does.

For a curbside model the only thing you really need to do is convert the B-pipe into a single turbo downpipe. That is assuming the model you're building has a 2-1 B-pipe.

I know how a turbo works, just didn't know that the compressor was a part of a complete turbo.

well, if you didn't know what the compressor part of the turbo is/does (or the fact that it is an integral part of the turbo), then you kinda don't know how the turbo works....

client has asked for a new set of drawings to be done and i've been put onto that wonderful task.
in the mean time, i've been building a model in 3ds max on my breaks....

The "thing" to the diagonal right is a turbine ;) The "thing" to the diagonal left, the one that is lighter in colour, is a compressor.

ales, that's my understanding of the turbocharging system, too.
While the exhaust turbine does drive the compressor turbine, (so some might call it a compressor), the actual compressed air comes out of the left part in the picture, so I'm calling it compressor housing/case and the right part exhsust turbine housing/case.

Don't worry, no skimping whatsoever. Well I touched up on my turbo knowledge last night on How Stuff Works and I'm good to go.

The thing on the far upper left is the wastegate actuator. It opens the wastegate on the turbine side (that's what the arm/linkage is for). The turbo shown has an internal wategate. Without a wastegate there wouldn't be the option of setting psi. BTW, the wastegate is always on the exhaust side.

The ppssstt sound is the sound a blow off valve would make. That is valve put between the turbo and the throttle. When the throttle closes between shifts the pressure in the system has nowhere to go except back into the intake compressor causing stress on the turbo. A blowoff valve releases this pressure.

Wastegate and blow off valve are 2 different things.

hahah that eclipse engine is pretty fucked up, but if you know your way around an engine its a pretty good and fun job making it right
