Couple days ago my car started making some funny noise.....My car is a 1999 G20t with 60K miles. I have JWT cams, headers, intake...The noise sounds like clacking and gets faster as I press the gas....You can hear it clearly as you rev up to 2,000 rpm.. At idle it clacks and clacks faster as it revs up to only 2,000rpm and being the loudest around 1,500-1800rpm... Some mechanics say it could be the lifters...but wondering if anyone else has had this problem....

Does it stop at 2k rpm or keep going?
Could be lifters. Could be a rod bearing. Hard to say without better data.

Yes George it does stop clacking after 2K....you can hear at idle and gets louder at 1500-1800rpm than sounds dies out between 1800-2000RPM and I think completely gone after 2000rpm...I saw a mechanic the other day and he listened and said it sounds like lifters...and I asked someone online and they also said lifter or spun rod bearing just like what you mentioned.....I sure hope its only lifters...

If it goes away by 2k rpm, I'm pretty confident it's the hydraulic valve lash adjusters (lifters).
Try changing your oil and your timing chain tensioner.
How long has it been doing this?

George, it started this week about 4 days ago....I must be truthful...I was racing a V6 Solara on the freeway...Anywas when I got home and parked my car in the garage I heard the clacking noise echoing in my garage.....from then on I had it....my friend took a listen at it today and he said he is going to do a leak down test on it next week...but the car seems to run fine....except...starting the motor sounds different...kind of like its low on battery..it cranks slower than normal.....Also when coming to a stop light and putting into neutral...the rpm dips lower than before to the point where it almost dies....I have JWT cams and its normal to dip alittle but seems to be dipping more these days....
I did a oil change 2 days ago....10w30...w/OEM filter...
How do I change the chain tensioner?

How do I change the chain tensioner?
If you have the filter still, cut it open with a Dremel and see if there is brass inside.
To change the tensioner, go to:
http://www.zotz.com
and follwo the maintenacne link for the SE-R an you'll find a procedure.
