Hey there, I have two problems with my '97 GTI 2.0 and was wondering if anyone has run into them.... factory lock/alarm issues.
1) when I unlock my doors and get in the car, the air pump runs three or four times after it has already unlocked the doors?!?
2) Car doesn't honk when I lock it anymore, but alarm works if I try opening the doors/trunk/hood... also, when it's cold in the winter, the alarm sets itself off when the car is parked. This SUCKS when it happens at 2 or 3 in the morning. I figured it must be a short somewhere, but I can't find it.
HELPPPP!!!!!
Thankx,
Cajbek97
p.s. anyone tell me what kinda HP boost you REALLY get from a hi-flow filter and exhaust mods?

It sounds like a broken vacuum line. Do any of the doors or hatch fail to lock/unlock with the others? If so I'd look there first. The harness connections between the door and body at the hinges is the most common place for failure, pull back the rubber boot to see. If the alarm problem can't be found, you can disable it.

Thanks boschman.. I will check out the door connections. The locks all function properly. I do remember the driver's side being a bit slow for a while. It would almost pause, then lock. I did check the pump itself and it seemed fine.
Hey, you hear of any issues with left or right brake light bulbs burning out lots? I seem to have to change them all the time. Drives me crazy because my CD changer is right in front of the assy at the back. Oh well, otherwise this car has been great!
Stick lookin' for that right exhaust note for this thing...

There've been a few times that mine hasn't honked when I've locked it, however that usually just means one of the three doors isn't shut properly.
Call me simple.
But the simplest answer is usally the right one.

That one is most likely the HOOD-LATCH SWITCH, coming out of
alignment with the piece that pushes down on it when the lid's closed, because of the shrinking metal due to the cold. (If you are "CAREFUL",
you can pry up the silver lever/arm on the switch upwards, to reduce
the gap)
Regarding the other problems, sorry, don't know.
I'm having my own alarm nightmares...
