external temp display not working

Following installation of a new battery the external temperature display on my 2001 Regal reads 50 degrees regardless of the actual temperature. Apparently this is not affecting the operation of the automatic climate control system, but it is disconcerting to see a constant 50 degree readout in 90+ degree weather! I find nothing in the users manual on this subject. Is there some means of correcting this problem? The car is out of warranty.

Thanks.

does the unit itself work fine? Is so, you need a new exterior temperature sensor, if the entire unit does not work, you're SOL and must buy a new one.

Apparently everything is working except for the erroneous report on the display. Because this resulted from the loss of power while a new battery was being installed, I am assuming that nothing is broken but that something needs to be reset. Could the loss and restoration of power alone have damaged the sensor? If so, do you know what is involved in replacing the sensor?

Thanks for your earlier reply.

remove and reconnect the negative battery terminal, that will reset the computer. If that doesn't fix it, you'll need a new exterior temp sensor.

Thanks. I'll give that a try.
