I have a 97 galant with overheating problem, the temperature gage goes to hot and it smells like antifreeze when i park it. i followed the green liquid but i can't really tell if it's coming form the water pump. Is there a way to find out more acurately. Also does anybody have instructions on how to change the water pump?

thanks a lot.

my advice is its probably not the water pump its either a leak and if its not a leak most probable cause is you have to change the thermostate wich is quick easy and inexpensive

or most probably your radiator fan is not working properly. (i.e. doesn't turn on at specified temperature or is entirely dead).
what you do is start the engine and look at the radiator fan if it runs after say 5 mins. if not then... that thing in behind your radiator (the fan :iceslolan ) is the culprit.

ok, it was the water pump. The funny thing is that the a/c was not working at idle either, the ac will work at high speeds only. So took it to the a/c guy and he said it was my compressor and there was not issues overheating. Wich i though it was a weird answer. But then after continuos overheating and water trails, I found the problem. w/Pump went out. It's a pain to remove all the parts just to get to the pump so took it to the pros. But cost me about $350. The ac is working good too.
