Odd Radio Problem '97 Taurus

We have an odd problem with our radio. When ever we do one of two things it seems that the speakers shut off...the radio actually seems to stay on, but the speakers cut out.

It happens when we

1:Shift the transmission into reverse
or
2:Turn the steering wheel to the right

Any Ideas anyone?

I get the same problem. The radio in my 96 wagon goes quiet when I shift into reverse, as well as when I'm driving in gear. I suspect it's related somehow to the gear selector switch.
