My Tach in my 1983 944 stopped working. Any suggestions?

Loose wire?

You'd have to pop the tach out and run a test light to the sending wire and +. That would tell you if the tach is dead. (the light should blink in time w/ engine RPM) Next would be the wires themselves. Test the light w/ a known +12 from the fuse panel.

Reply w/ results.

Thanks for the help! What is a +12 fuse? Is that the location of the fuse which controls the tach voltage? If not is there a fuse which controls the voltage to the Tach?

though I'm not 100% sure I believe the tach signal comes off the coil and if this is true you will blow your test light out

The coil is only fed 12 volts from the DME. It is somewhat possible to get backfeed from the coil.

Either way, it's gonna tell you that the tach is getting signal.

RE: Tach not working: noted my MPH gauge also was not working. Both the tach and the mph gauge were not working. The cause was a loose wire. Both are fixed and back in operation thanks for the help.
