My friends 1980 turbo trans am 4.9 burned to the ground , the engine is fine but the rest of the car is gone. I would like to use the turbo on my 2000 grand am v6. What do I need to do other than lower compression I mean in fitting it on the exhaust , can I just use half the exhaust manifold or should I use it after they join together on the pipe? If its a stupid idea let me know anyhow.

It is likely that you will have to remake the manifold between the turbo and the head(s). Not much would be reuseable besides maybe the collectors and the wastgate attachment (if it is external). You can't normally reuse the manifold flanges, since they are either cast or have had the buggery welded out of them.

Side mounted fwd v6 , Ok , if I was too fabricate a turbo off where the front manifold connects to the center and center connects to the rear manifold and become one pipe (3 piece exhuast manifold) if I remove the center I couldnt fab the flanges could I since you were saying they usually have been welded to hell already , so should I put it inline with the pipe after the manifolds instead? That would be damn tight.
BTW mk escorts rule , you should consider your selves lucky we dont got them in canada , you guys still have lots of cosworth engines in the escorts?
