Keyless entry/alarm system

I was wondering if anyone bought and installed an after-market keyless entry or alarm on your GT? I don't have keyless entry for my car and wanted it. But I am reading on Team3S that there is some type of alarm security feature on GTs already. Is that only for the VR4s or on all types? I have an SL... Anyways, if an SL doesn't have an alarm system then I will just buy the two together. But if it does, how do you get around the stock alarm system in our car? Because I would like to keep the factory alarm system if it is already there but wtill want it to "arm" when I use the remote. I don't know if I'm making any sense. LOL

An alarm system and keyless entry are two separate things, right? :o/

Hey very good question! My new baby (97SL) came with keyless entry, it looks to be stock, this car has not had any after market projects done to it, not even tinted windows. So I am assuming that the keyless entry is stock....? To my knowledge keyless entry and an alarm are two different things, unless you have an alarm that gives you the option for keyless entry, (which most do now, these days). But yeah, I would like to know if the stock keyless entry also has an alarm feature...

Yea I think I have the same thing, at least I know it's viper, it works real well, if you touch the hood too hard it goes off lol.

Well, those of you with the after-market alarm systems, do you have a factory alarm system on there? If so, what happens to it? Oh, and if you do have the factory alarm, can you just buy keyless entry and when you leave and lock the car the factory alarm will automatically set?

Also, how do you know if you have a factory alarm in your car already? I don't have the remotes but I don't know whether or not the car has an alarm in there.

ok to check if you have an alarm lock your car up and try to get into to it or bump it pretty hard if nothing goes off then you dont have one. I just got a viper keyless entry alarm system in my gt and it works perfect. I also added the ignition kill option if someone tries hot wires my car they cant start it up even with my car keys if the alarm is sounding of course. also on your dash it usual says armed or something like that lighted up, if its not lit then you most likely dont have one.

Yeah, I tried bumping into it and like closing the hood on it but nothing went off. The thing is, the guy I bought it from insisted that there was some sort of security feature on the car with some type of alarm like thing. I don't know though....maybe he was just BSing me. I got to the point where I was just gonna say that it doesn't have one but today, I saw my friend who has a 94 SL as well and asked him if he had a security thing in his car that was stock and he said yes. He said that he armed it before but when he was trying to show me it wasn't working. So now I'm all confused. Does any one with a 94 SL know if if there's a security feature installed and if so how to activate it???

Yeah i have a 94 SL and when i get out of the car and lock it there is a little message that comes up and says security. If you have a SL model your car is keyless entry ready but i am not sure about alarm. I think it is though?

Okay, so I think I figured out the whole security feature on my car. If you get out, you have to set it with your key. Turn the key to open it (regardless of whether the doors are locked or unlocked) and then lock it. When you close the door then the security light should be on.

As far as alarm goes then I'm probably just going to buy an alarm system that has keyless entry.

I have a viper as well and am pretty satisfied, the only thing I don't like is that it interferes with my turbo timer. Usually the car arms itself 30 seconds after a door is closed, providing the key is out of the ignition. The only problem is when the TT is on for a few mins. I can't arm the alarm. And if I lock the car doors, when the TT turns the car off, the doors unlock automatically. So if you have a turbotimer and are planning on getting an aftermarket alarm, ask the tech who is installing it, if they can remedy this problem ahead of time. Because it is really annoying have a turbo timer, but still having to wait next to the car until it is done cooling down.

Igovert500, is your alarm system an aftermarket alarm? Also, I have an SL so I don't think I have a turbo timer... It's only on the VR4s, right? And umm.....do you think getting an aftermarket alarm system with the keyless entry will affect the stock security feature?

I have a vr4, and no SLs don't need or have turbo timers, so that wont apply to you. My alarm is aftermarket, however the previous owner had it installed, so I don't know TOO much about it. I highly doubt that an aftermarket alarm would affect stock security features. My understanding of them is that they either add to or replace stock security features. I don't know what features come stock on an SL, however I know that my Viper alarm sets itself automatically after 30 seconds after the door is closed, the remote for the alarm was also programed for keyless entry(so lock and unlock features) and has the 3rd button programmed to pop the trunk. I believe if you have a knowledgable technician install it, and a remote with enough buttons[mine has 4, only uses 2 or 3...one for the trunk, and one for lock(arm)/unlock(disarm)], then they can program any features you had stock into the new remote. So basically, I don't think you will 'lose' any features, only gain.

i have both factory and aftermarket alarms on the car. I remember when my dad tried getting into my car, he set off both alarms, so you heard the horn honking and the after market alarm going off at the same time
