Okay weird problem....
Lets say you stop behind a light. You need to shift back into park and then back into drive for it to accelerate. After that, every gear shifts smoothly. No other problems other than that. Everytime car comes to a complete stop you need to shift back to park and back to drive. Just changed the Neutral Safety Switch and still have the same problem. Please help. Thanks

this is the typical AX4S piston failure problem, it requires the transmission to be rebuilt or replaced.

the AX4S is essentially an AXOD, '96+ AXODs are referred to as AX4S's

I have a 97 Taurus that does the same thing, but it shifts fine in drive. If I put it in overdrive when I come to a complete stop, I have to shift it into reverse or park then back to overdrive. What if I have the trans flushed do you think that will help?

I have the Same problem with my 96 Taurus. Did that work when you flushed your trans fluid?
